EAL Program at Prior’s Field
EAL learning is part of the offering at Prior’s Field for those students wanting the opportunity to develop a skill which is both life enriching and lifelong. Prior’s Field strategies include adaptive and supportive teaching within lessons as well as bespoke EAL tuition from our experienced and well-qualified teachers.
Many of our EAL community maximise on the opportunity to work with other staff members such as SEND support and teachers within boarding so that they can practice their emerging or well-developed multi or bilingual skills. Academic excellence is invested in by ensuring every resource available to our students is tried and tested so that traditional processes are enhanced by the best of technology and practices. The EAL programme includes IELTS, FCE, PET and other qualifications where Prior’s Field students have an admirable track record. Sixth Form students receive specialist IELTS teaching, UCAS support and small focused classes which target individuals’ needs, such as academic exam skills and subject specific support. There really is no limit to how much our EAL students can achieve, and our dedicated, experienced department look forward to welcoming you and supporting you to reach your goals.
International opportunities, family feel
Many of our EAL students are also boarders and this allows them the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in both academic and cultural experiences. Those who are day students can also engage with the international boarders outside of the day experiences owing to our flexible approach towards boarding which can be discussed to match the needs of each student individually. This bespoke personalisation for practicing new language and concepts means that our EAL students’ progress. Their happiness is clear as we see them fully engaged with every staff member, peer and across-school opportunities.
Integrated academic approach
English Language development is integrated and embedded into our curriculum with language rich mainstream classes. Our students also benefit from consolidation opportunities through EAL focused lessons which are linked to mainstream content and specific English Language qualifications. All of our students’ wide range of academic resources are available to be shared with parents so that reciprocal relationships are built to allow our students an immersive and collaborative experience as they develop their skills within bilingualism or multilingualism. This means that our EAL learners grow skills and subject knowledge so that they leave school self-confident in their abilities as both English speakers and academic achievers.
Embracing and celebrating globalism and the wonder of being a linguist
Prior’s Field is immensely proud and appreciative of the achievements of our EAL students. Every student must show resilience and self-drive to achieve their potential whilst studying EAL. Therefore, our staff team ensure that they have the best environment to achieve this both within the academic sphere and in their social interactions. We achieve social inclusion by investing in our EAL families. We take time to get to know every students’ wider community, backgrounds and cultures. Whilst studying at Prior’s Field our EAL students also gain from experiencing English traditions and learning about English and Great Britain’s heritage. This allows our EAL students to explore self-identity and other concepts related to self-discovery and self-realisation.
